Trust Your Little Voice

Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood. All is riddle, and the key to a riddle is another riddle. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life's lessons are mandatory but when you choose to learn them is optional. Each lesson is designed to help us become more loving, compassionate human beings through growth and understanding. Unfortunately growth is usually painful, dark and ugly but we are blessed with help, simply by asking for it.

In Greek and Latin, Angel means Messenger. There are examples of angels being assigned to protect human beings throughout history. These celestial messengers move at the speed of light to carry out a Divine plan. In times of peril, angels have been sent to rescue us.  I find it interesting that 70% of Americans believe in Jesus Christ but 85% believe in Angels!

The belief in Archangels exists outside of any one religion or culture. Time and space are different for these angels. They are able to view reality, including our past, present and future as one stream within the present moment, which enables them to offer powerful guidance and enlightening new perspectives. Each angel is believed to hold certain powers that people can draw upon. For example Archangel Michael is known to possess strength, courage, clarity, and protection.

What or who are angels? The answer varies depending on who you ask. Through my experiences and continuous education, I have come to understand that angels aren't just one thing. They come in different forms depending on the task, timing, circumstances and knowledge level of the person to whom the angel is to visit. There is a common occurrence that leads me to believe that most angels are our loved ones who passed before us. Just like other angels, our passed loved ones have a vantage point that we don't have. They can see the past, present and some of the future so they can understand the reason for things happening when we can't.

I have learned how to call on my angels for even the smallest things because I discovered that they speak in the language of questions and answers in thought. Each time we pose a question in our mind, we call on an angel to provide us with the answer. Whether or not we hear the answer is up to us as we all must learn how to hear with "spiritual ears" and recognize the signs they give us. I haven't lost or misplaced anything for a very long time. I didn't understand or even realize this until about five years ago. When I lose something I pose the question in my mind, "Where is my such and such?". Without realizing it I would be led on a hunt to find the missing object and I would find it. Once I realized I was actually being guided by a force I couldn't see, I began to pay closer attention to how it worked.

It is my belief that friends and relatives, that I had a special connection with in life, remain available to me in a totally different way when they are in Spirit. I take many precautions to ensure that I am only connecting to positive, loving energy or spirits. There is a balance to everything, including Spirit, so there are negative energies to be cautious of. Just as in life they wear disguises designed to trick us into trusting them. If an angel is guiding you to cause hurt or harm you can be 100% sure that it is not an angel of God and following it will surely lead to pain and suffering. Those that love us only want what is best for us and will do what they can to guide us on the path to peace, happiness and abundance.

I was receiving spiritual guidance before I was even aware it existed. That is one of the beautiful things about angels; we don't have to believe in them for them to believe in us. I grew up near the coast in Central California. I love the ocean and have spent a lot of time in it. I learned to scuba dive when I was sixteen years old in Monterey. Although our beaches were known for shark sightings this was not something I thought about until one day in 1990 when two friends/coworkers and I decided to go to the beach on a hot summer day. We found a great beach near Rio Del Mar that wasn't too busy so we parked the car and climbed down the cliff to the beach below.

The climb and subsequent hike over the sand got everyone pretty hot so the first order of business was to jump in the refreshing ocean to cool off. The three of us took off running towards the surf as if in a race. Our inner child was screaming with glee. When it was deep enough, my friends dove into the oncoming waves while I stopped in my tracks. They didn't realize that I stayed behind until they were pretty far. While they were paddling out I retreated back towards the beach with a feeling of dread I could not explain. I couldn't get myself to go in the water deeper than my knees. I just stood there watching them. Before long I began thinking about a great white shark.

By this time my friends are verbally harassing and teasing me, trying to get me to join them in the ocean but nothing they said made a difference. I started scanning the water around me searching for any sign of a shark. The feeling became so strong I had to leave the water completely. All I could do was sit on the sand, at the water's edge, and watch my friends. I watched their heads bob up and down, thinking I might notice if something pulled one of them under the surface of the water. The only time I broke my stare was to scan the shoreline for a shark fin. We were in a cove surrounded by cliffs, at least twenty foot high, so I couldn't see very far to my right as a result. To my left, about 300 yards down the coast, I saw a few surfers. The entire time my friends swam I just sat and stared, prepped and ready to jump to their rescue.

That day, Jeff, may he rest in Peace, and Eric had an experience that we will never forget. They played in the waves without incident, or so we thought. Once we returned to our spot on the beach they teased me even more. It didn't bother me because I would rather be safe than sorry and I had no regrets. Although I couldn't rationally explain what I felt, I knew enough to heed the warning and I was happy to stay out of the water. We enjoyed ourselves on a much needed day of fun on a hot July day.

The next day, I was waiting for the morning sales meeting to start. I was in my own world writing in my journal about yesterday's beach events when,

"BAM!", I was shocked into reality by a newspaper hitting the table in front of me. I looked up at Jeff, one of the men from the beach outing. His face was pale, like he'd seen a ghost.

"Look at the article on the front page!" he said in a quivering voice.

"Great white scare clears beach" I read out loud. After the goose bumps subsided I said,

"HA! I told you guys!"

This is a copy of the genuine article! Many thanks to the Internet and all those people who uploaded the newspapers.

That was one of the times in my life that I now refer to as a Quantum Moment. A moment in my life that I recognize as having more meaning than my mind can comprehend at the time. It is a small spiritual awakening that your soul recognizes but your ego clouds your mind so the opportunity to gain new insight, understanding and wisdom is lost for the moment, waiting to be recalled later in life when we are ready to comprehend it.

It would be many more years before I was able to see this incident for what it was. Angels have helped me or my family members on more occasions than I can count. We all have them, whether we believe it or not. I am quite certain that we have all received guidance from the Heavens above at some point in our lives. When we get to the place where we can accept this reality, it is life changing. You will see yourself and the world around you in a whole new light. You will find it more difficult to be unhappy and stressed because you begin to understand the true meaning of life. With wisdom, once the lesson is learned it cannot be unlearned.

Our lives should be amazing and filled with love, laughter, gratitude and humility. We should all look at the world with a sense of awe and wonder with an underlying excitement for what is to come. That is what it means to live inspired. You have a purpose here and it is not just to get up to go to work. We all have bills to pay and things we want to buy and that's what makes us motivated. However motivation isn't always positive and it can actually be very destructive. It's okay to own things but it's not okay for things to own us. As we grow spiritually it becomes easier to balance motivation and inspiration. All work (motivation) and no play (inspiration) makes Alison an irritable human.

Find the things in your everyday life that are amazing and take time to ponder them. The more you live inspired or connected to the positive spirit the more positive, wonderful things will come into your life. It's in your thoughts! Thoughts of lack bring lack but thoughts of hope and faith bring us miracles that we never could have imagined with the 10% of our brain we use. You cannot think negative thoughts then blame others for your life being negative. We can't "hear" our angels until we have faith that they are there.

Knowing that my beloved grandma is now one of my angels brings me a feeling that is indescribably positive. How lucky am I that she is still with me and that I will see her again. How miraculous is it that my life and the life of my child have been spared because my ancestors love and guide me (those are stories for another time). How thankful I am that she can pass along wisdom and guidance to me from a height no one on earth can parallel.

Knowing she wants me to be happy and at peace helps me stay in that state of mind no matter my circumstances. I want my grandma to be at peace and not have to worry about or waste her energy on me so I keep that in my mind always. I want her to be happy when she sees my soul, my life and where I am headed. So keep watching for the signs they leave. Our loved ones are always watching over us as they continue on their path to ultimate enlightenment.
